Communication Is A Must

Posted by: User ImageEIGB  /  Category: Uncategorized

Welcome back!

Communication is one of the most important things in today’s society.  Communication, according to Webster Dictionary, the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs.   What I see from this definition is that communication is not just verbal, but also can be seen as writing or signs, and this is so true.

With this definition in mind one has to see that 80% of what we do on a day to day basis is communicate.  Our body language, writings, speech, everything is a communication with someone.  That is why in business great communication skills are a must.  Think of all the situations that you have to communicate your thoughts with another person on a day to day basis.  Very numeruous isn’t it.

In today’s writing I will be going over a few steps in communicating.

Eye Contact - Eye contact is one of the most important communication tools that we can offer.  Now I don’t mean have a staring contest with the other person, but give them some eye contact.  Eye contact can convey to the other person that you are listening to what they are saying and not “blowing” them off.  This is very important due to the fact that we all enjoy the feeling that we are being listened to.

Body Language - Body language is also very important due to the fact that we can convey our attitudes via the way our body is.  Try to look inviting, meaning, leaned a little forward in, not leaning back with arms crossed, eye contact is a must, and also a smile.  An occasional nod of the head also tells the other person that, yes, you are listening.

Voice tone and pace - Show inflection in your tone.  Don’t just continually talk in a monotoned voice at either a real slow pace or fast pace for now your intended listener will think that if you don’t find it important why should I.  Inflection of different tones with a nice steady pace, says this should be listened to.

Open Ended Questions - If you ask questions ask open ended questions.  Don’t ask a simple yes or no question, but ask one that takes an answer.  Ex.  Where, What, Who, How questions.  Not - Do you Understand? etc.

Well that is all for today and I hope you have learned a little something on helpful communication techniques.  Thank you for reading and have a great day.
